inaugural dew downtown flagstaff brings winter sports to downtown streets

The inaugural Dew Downtown Flagstaff Urban Ski & Snowboard Festival is a high-octane, two-day demonstration and competition through the streets of historic downtown Flagstaff on February 11-12.

San Francisco Street will be transformed into the ultimate playground and winter sport daredevils of all ages are invited to grind, jump and shred over park benches, trashcans, guardrails and other urban obstacles. Whether you want to clip into your board or skis and participate, or sit on the sidelines and watch the riders tackle the course, this family-friendly event will take Flagstaff’s month-long Winterfest celebration to a whole new level.

“Dew Downtown Flagstaff puts an unusual spin on this type of event, taking it out of the big ski resort setting and into the streets of Flagstaff,” said Mark Lamberson, owner of Mountain Sports and international ski and snowboard contest director. “Flagstaff has long been known as an incredible winter sports destination and this event takes it to a whole new level.”

The Dew Downtown Flagstaff course is being designed by a local resident who has designed similar courses for events like the Winter X Games. Anyone who wants to test out his work can pay $10 to ski or board the course in a designated time block on Saturday, February 11. The actual judged competition will take place on Sunday, February 12 and also costs $10 to participate. The entire weekend of events is free for spectators, who can also peruse the merchandise tents and purchase food and beverages. Those wanting to upgrade their experience can purchase VIP tickets ($50 in advance; $75 at the door), which includes preferred seating, parking, discount beer and a Friday  night pre-party at Altitudes Bar & Grill.

The inaugural Dew Downtown Flagstaff Urban Ski & Snowboard Festival is presented by Mountain Dew, Suddenlink and the City of Flagstaff. Visit www.dewdowntownflagstaff.com for information on how to register, where to park and the safety requirements for participants.
