Prescott

Prescott is located in Arizona's North Central mountains; four mild seasons offer just enough variation to make the weather both moderate and interesting. Prescott is a mile-high city nestled in the Prescott National Forest, which has the largest stand of ponderosa pines. With a classic downtown replete with Victorian homes, turn-of-the-century saloons and other historic settings, you'll find plenty of Western history in Prescott - much of it dating back to the days of Wyatt Earp.

Prescott Attractions

Prescott offers over 400 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails. It's also home to four of Arizona's most prized museums, and loaded with art galleries, antique shops, local eateries and golfing. For a day on the water, visit one of the city's four beautiful small lakes, perfect for boating, fishing and nature watching.

Prescott has more than 700 homes and businesses listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Its granite downtown courthouse set among green lawns and spreading American elm trees reflects the Midwestern and New England background of Prescott's early pioneers, thus coining the phrase, "Everybody's Hometown" - and making the city the perfect place for a historic home tour or bed and breakfast getaway.

Prescott History & Culture

The discovery of gold in 1861 brought national attention to what later became the Territory of Arizona. These discoveries drew the attention of President Abraham Lincoln, who was looking for possible funding sources for the North during the Civil War. The city is named in honor of noted historian William Hickling Prescott.
